Big box stores advice is iffy at best.

As a former employee for two major electronics retailers, I can tell you the advice you get may or may not be beneficial to you.  Most of these people go through a basic computer learning course and most of the information is intended to entice you to buy into their accessories and extended warranty programs.

Most of the accessories they offer are good buy you can get components of equal quality for a fraction of the cost on line.  Most stores have a quota of 10% accessory attachment.  That means they are more interested in gaining sales numbers than actually providing you with the proper solution.
